The Atchafalaya Heritage Area has been designated by Congress as a National Heritage Area.
Through the Louisiana Artist Fellowship Program, the Louisiana Division of the Arts (LDOA) provided fellowship awards to artists who were selected through a rigorous panel process. Ending in 2010, these awards were conceived both to recognize outstanding artists for their accomplishments and to help them produce new work by giving them the time and resources to develop their ideas. Artist fellowships were awarded in dance, design arts, folklife, literature, media, music, theatre, and visual arts and crafts, and represented the LDOA’s highest award for creative achievement among individual artists. The recipients listed below received this prestigious grant / award, as their body of work was (and still is) essential to Louisiana’s cultural heritage and creative vitality.
