The Atchafalaya Heritage Area has been designated by Congress as a National Heritage Area.
With funding from the Governor's Office of Homeland Security & Preparedness (GOHSEP), the Louisiana Division of Historic Preservation and the National Park Service's National Center for Preservation Technology & Training (NCPTT) prepared this booklet to help residential property owners minimize risk, prepare for future disasters, and more. The Division of Historic Preservation also has printed copies available. Please contact Nicole Hobson-Morris by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Provide the number of copies being requested and contact/address for consideration.
This important booklet was prepared by URS Group, Inc. for the Environmental/Historic Preservation Program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), as part of their obligations under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. The booklet is a great resource which, as highlighted in the document, addresses the circumstances and events that spurred the building elevation movement in New Orleans.
