The Louisiana Division of Historic Preservation, in conjunction with the National Park Service's National Center for Preservation Technology & Training (NCPTT) offers guidance to help residential property owners minimize risk to their buildings and prepare for future weather-related events in a booklet entitled, " Resilient Heritage: Protecting your Historic Home from Natural Disasters". The booklet was funded by the Governor's Office of Homeland Security & Preparedness (GOHSEP).

Due to changing weather patterns and extreme weather events that have the potential to affect historic properties more frequently and intensely, the National Park Service has developed Guidelines on Flood Adaptation for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings. These guidelines are the most recent edition in a series that includes guidelines for typical rehabilitations and special topics such as sustainability.
